Are you looking to boost your search engine results and get more water damage leads? The best way to improve your SEO scores is to focus on link building. Learn about how you can do this for your own restoration business by reading below.

Link Building for Water Damage Leads

Link building is the process of getting links to your website that reference your company name, address, phone, and website. This comes in the form of hyperlinks to you content that can be found on other websites.

When reputable websites link to your content, it shows their approval of your business and gets the word out to a wider audience. Google sees this, and your website can be ranked higher in keyword searches. But be warned, all links are not the same. Having your links on too many websites, especially low quality ones, will be seen as spam.

Website links are classified as either internal or external links.

External Links

External links, on the other hand, are links that lead to other websites from your website. It’s good to have these kinds of links because by attaching good sources and supplementary material to your website, you’re making your website seem more trustworthy and of higher quality. When you link to another website, that website becomes associated with your website.

Internal Links

Another important part of link building includes internal links. Internal links are the links on your website that lead back to a main page on your website and help you capture water damage leads. For example, you may have a supplementary service page containing a link that takes you back to the main service page. Internal links are helpful in creating faster navigation on your website and establishing a hierarchy with what information your company considers most important.

Anchor Text

The anchor text is basically the words that contain the link. Use service keywords or your company name for anchor text links to your website main page or core service page to gain favor with the Google algorithm. It’s good to have variety in your anchor text so you don’t always have to use one main keyword.

The links should not all be sent to your home page - they should also be sent to your service or location pages to cater to water damage leads.

Dofollow vs Nofollow Links

For the links found on other websites leading to your website, the type of link is either a dofollow link or nofollow link.

Dofollow links are links that Google will see on the website and then follow to your website. These are, mainly, the kind of links you want since they are the ones that will get you noticed by the Google algorithm.

On the other end of the spectrum are nofollow links. Google won’t visit your website when it sees the link. This might sound bad, but having a mix of dofollow and nofollow links is natural. If you had all dofollow links, Google would see that as suspicious. Ideally, you want about 85% of your links to be dofollows.

Categories of Links

Core Links for Water Damage Leads

These are links that should be set up for every restoration contractor website. The goal of these links is to get your company name, address, phone number, and website on these platforms and mention the services you provide in the description of the listing. These are really important to have.

  • Google Maps
  • Apple Maps
  • Bing Maps
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • YouTube
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn

Directory Links

These are secondary links and supporting links for your website. Again, these help to get your company name, address, phone number, and website out to the public and mention the services you provide. We use a service called yext.com to provide this for our clients.

  • Yelp
  • Foursquare
  • HomeAdvisor
  • Yellow pages
  • Superpages
  • Yahoo
  • City Search

Local Links

These types of links help create local relevance for your company by involving it in the local market. These are very powerful links to have because they come from your local community. These are hard to get, but highly recommended and can help win over water damage leads.

  • Newspaper directory listings
  • Local community pages
  • Business partners
  • Clubs/volunteer organizations/community pages

Press Releases

These links get your website published on national news websites. You get these links by sending your press releases to local newspapers. You can also send out national press releases to widen your reach. These can improve relevance for your services.

Blog/Guest Post Links

The point of blog posts is to create quality content, which you can get other websites to link to. The content would relate to whatever service you are offering. Don’t act like a salesperson with your content. The context should be informative, research-based and helpful. An example topic could be “10 Steps to Recovering After a Flood.”

Internal Linking pages

More of the most often overlooked parts of linking is internal website linking. According to Moz.com, “Internal links are hyperlinks that point at (target) the same domain as the domain that the link exists on (source). In layman's terms, an internal link is one that points to another page on the same website.” If you write a blog post about water damage, for example, be sure to have links that refer potential water damage leads to that particular service page on your site.
